Statement

5.6.29. Does the gas expanding according to the law heat up or cool down?

Solution

Assuming we're working with ideal gases
If the gas is expanding according the law

From the ideal gas law we have

and substituting this into the given law, we get

since n and R are constant

so, T is inversely proportional to V, if V increases, T decreases, therefore, the gas cools down

Answer

The gas cools down
